The South are delighted to announce that they will be headlining one of the longest running festivals in the UK; Towersey festival.
This now legendary festival includes Radio 2 favourites and multi-award winning Bellowhead, returning guitar and great folk hero Nic Jonea and founding members of bands such as Planxty, The Bothy Band and one of the most respected and well-known Irish musians of all time, Donal Lunny.
Cutting edge acoustic music comes from over the pond with Abigail Washburn (USA) and Old Man Luedecke (Canada) as well as ex Idlewild front man Roddy Woomble (Scotland), BBC 6 Music favourite Emily Barker (Australia) and O’Hooley & Tidow ‘Striking and refreshingly ambitious. A bold, unsettling debut.’ The Observer
A whole raft of acoustic festival favourites also join the line-up including one of the finest acoustic and slide guitar players in the world Martin Simpson, the foremost exponent of the Northumbrian pipes Kathryn Tickell and the UK’s most exciting roots pioneers, the Reggae Roots fusion that is Edward II.
So at 48 years old, the oldest truly independent Festival continues to deliver on line-up. But what makes the difference at Towersey is that bit of magic that all great (and long lasting) festivals need.
“It gets into your bloodstream and won’t let go” said one Towersey regular and it seems to be that almost addictive quality that draws people back after even one visit. The mix of great music, great site, quirky village location, street theatre, spoken work, hands-on workshops, party atmosphere and giant Children’s Festival just seems to tick so many boxes.
